Function:
Pharmacodynamics:
Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic. It acts on the bacteria ribosome, inhibiting the synthesis of protein, strengthening cell membrane permeability, which causes the leakage of some important cell materials such as potassium ion, adenine and nucleotide, leading to the death of the cells. Neomycin is especially effective to the bacteria in rest stage. It has good antibacterial function on staphylococcus aureus and enterobacteriaceae (coli etc.). The bacteria may obtain resistance to neomycin, but the process is slow. There is also partial or complete cross-resistance between neomycin and streptomycin, kanamycin, or gentamicin
Pharmacokinetics:
Little of neomycin is absorbed if orally or locally applied. When orally applied, only 3% is excreted with urine and most is excreted with dejecta in original shape. A large amount can be absorbed when there is intestinal inflammation or abscess.
Indications:It is indicated for the prevention and treatment of bacterial enteritis in calves, sheep, goats, swine and poultry caused by bacteria susceptible to neomycin, such as E. coli, Salmonella and Campylobacter spp.
Usage and dosage: Water-premix: poultry---50-75mg product/1 liter water, successive for 3-5 days.
